The students’ and faculty visited the “Lalbagh Flower” Show on 13 th August, 2019. There were number of flowers, which were displayed at its grandeur. Some of themes included Indian classical instrument and some freedom fighters of Karnataka.
The department of Botany organized a visit to “Hema Horticulture Research Institute” managed by physically challenged people. The students’ and faculty witnessed the horticulture method maintained by the physically challenged people.
The department of Botany & Biotechnology organized an industrial visit to “Bayer Crop Science” Monsanto, Doddaballapur on 27 th Feb, 2020. The students were educated on the Hybrid variety vegetables like tomato, cabbage, cauliflowers, ladies finger, cucumber, corn etc There was an exposure towards seeds and traits, crop protection and technological developments to take agriculture to the next level.
FESTS CONDUCTED
During the annual Inter – collegiate festival (DISHA) held on 20 th September, 2019, the Department of Chemistry, Botany & Biotechnology conducted an event named ADZAP. The students actively participated in the competition and performed different advertisements effectively.
STUDENT ACTIVITIES: On the eve of Centenary celebration of Botany department, Bangalore University conducted various competitions on the topics of Botany on 19 th December, 2019. Our students participated in various competition like Rangoli (using floral parts), Quiz and Essay writing. Dayal Akansha of I B.Sc (CBBT) won third place in Rangoli competition.
CONFERENCE/WORKSHOP
The Department of Chemistry, Botany, Biotechnology & Zoology in association with Centre for Intellectual Property Rights Research and Advocacy (CIPRA) & Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Ministry of commerce and Industry, Government of India, Chair on IPR, National Law School of India University, Bangalore organized a one day workshop on “IPR FOR SPURRING INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY” on 8 th Feb, 2020. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. T. Ramakrishna and various other speakers who spoke on various aspects such as patents, copy rights, trademark and geographic indications.
MEDICINAL GARDEN
The Department of Botany maintains a medicinal garden with some of the commonly grown medicinal plants in Bangalore. The YWCA Bangalore in association with Botany department planted some of the medicinal saplings on 3 rd March, 2020 as in initiative to create awareness and educate the institutions about importance of having medicinal garden.
