ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Home Science is an expansive and ever-growing field. Home Science Education is an amalgamation of various fields of study and has its roots in biology, psychology, sociology, anthropology, food science, management, ergonomics, education, textile science etc. The different branches of Home Science are Nutrition and Dietetics, Human Development, Textiles and Clothing, Resource Management, Interior Decoration, Early Childhood Education and Extension Education

HISTORY
The Department of Home Science was formally instituted in the year 1990 in the PUC section. The course was offered with Chemistry, Biology and Psychology. In 1994, the department upgraded to a BA degree course and Home Science was offered with Economics and Psychology under Bangalore University. In the year 2002 the department introduced another course BSc in home science which was offered with Computer Science and Psychology. In the year 2017 -18 the department introduced another course BSc in Nutrition &Dietetics, and it was offered with Zoology and Chemistry. Currently the department abiding by the NEP 2020 recommendations offers Home Science and Nutrition Dietetics. The department is affiliated to the Bengaluru City University and offers the following courses
I) BA/BSc -Home Science with Psychology
II) BSC - Nutrition & Dietetics with Chemistry /Zoology / Psychology
