The Bishop Cotton Chemical Society was inaugurated on 20th August 2018. Dr. Geetharani, Assistant Professor, Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, delivered the inaugural lecture on the topic "Metal Catalyzed Borylation Reaction: A step towards Suzuki- Miyaura Coupling Reaction".
An intercollegiate event named 'Taboo' was organized during Disha Fest by the Department of Chemistry in association with the Department of Botany and Biotechnology. Bulletin board on Astrochemistry, "Chemistry in Outer-space" was displayed on 26th October 2018.
Interclass competitions like creative writing, crossword and cartooning were organized on 20th and 23rd February 2019.
Valedictory of Bishop Cotton Chemical Society was held on 2nd May 2019. Dr. S. Natarajan, Advisor/ Senior Vice President, Sami Labs – Research and Development Pvt Ltd, graced the occasion. He gave a lecture on "Career opportunities in industries". He briefed about various Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) recognised Research and Development Departments and Laboratories such as Analytical, Agricultural, Microbiology, Scale up (Pilot Plant), Formulation, Biological, Tech Support and Plant Tissue Culture and their functioning. He spoke about supercritical fluids, bioactive materials in nutraceuticals and also its socio-economic applications. He also gave career guidance and motivated the students to take up higher studies.
Mentoring activities:
Seminars, problem-solving and project works using Information and Communication Technology were given to advanced learners for academic enrichment and to improve communication and presentation skills. Special coaching classes were organized and revision tests were conducted for slow learners.
