ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR 2022 -2023
Inauguration of Bishop Cotton Chemical Society 2023
The Bishop Cotton Chemical Society was inaugurated on 5th December 2022. Dr. Jacqueline T Rajamathi, Retired Professor, Department of Chemistry, Bishop Cotton Women's Christian College delivered an inaugural talk on Nanotechnology: "There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom".
Induction programme for PUC students
The Department of Chemistry organised an Induction programme - Open day on 12th and 13th December 2022 from the Departments of Chemistry, Homescience, Biotechnology, Botany and Zoology.
career counselling session
The Department of chemistry in collaboration with the placement cell conducted a career counselling session on clinical research by the recruiter company - TalentSurabhi, Healthcare Industry on 19th January 2023 at seminar hall. Dr. Sakthivel Sivam, Senior Director Biostatistics from Veranex company gave a guest lecture on clinical research and its scope in India and other countries.
Outreach programme attended by chemistry students
The Student Christain Movement in collaboration with the Departments of B.Sc visited the Gerizim Rehabilitation Trust, Bengaluru on 21st December 2022 as a part of Outreach programme.
Field Visit
The Department of Chemistry organized a visit to National Centre for Biological Sciences on Tuesday, the 30th May 2023. The students were taken to visit inStem, C-Camp, Electron microscopy instrumentation, image processing labs, Computational Approaches to Protein Science lab(CAPS) and archive centre in the NCBS campus. Students learnt to relate chemistry concepts with biological sciences for the present socio-medico problems and also the importance of research in Sciences.
Students taking part in Fun with Chemistry
An interclass chemistry competition - 'Fun with Chemistry' was organised on 28th June 2023 for PUC and degree students. Events like pictionary, Bingo with atomic numbers, Chemiction, Photography, Chemithon and triple bond were held to encourage creative learning.
Students taking part in the chem color commune – Disha 2023
An intercollegeate competition – Chem Color Commune was organised by the Department of Chemistry as a part of the event Disha 2023 on 5th July 2023. Around 10 students took part in the event.
