The Department of Chemistry displayed a bulletin board on 25th November 2023 Saturday on the topic Astro-chemistry. Around 12 II BSc students participated actively.

Outreach Programme Conducted
The Department of Chemistry in collaboration with the Department of Botany, Biotechnology and Zoology visited Joel Memorial Charitable Trust on 18th December 2023 as a part of an Outreach programme. Around 5 faculty and 50 students participated. Students learnt to be grateful to god, parents and teachers for their precious life.

Awareness Training Programme
An awareness and training programme on fire safety for faculty and students were conducted on 7th December 2023 by the Department of Chemistry in collaboration with assembly committee. The Karnataka Fire Officer were invited to give a demo session on fire safety. Anil Kumar, Fireman – 3137, Vivek Naik, Fireman – 4470 and Manoj Kumar, Fireman 4821 addresses the assembled staff and students. Students were given insights on the causes of fire, chemical reaction involved in fire production and also the first aid steps to minimize the fire production.

Career Counselling
The Department of Chemistry conducted a career counselling on the scope and future prospects in Chemistry on 21st May 2024. Dr. Nirmala Vaz, Head, Department of Chemistry - Post-Graduation and Dr. Raghu, Associate professor, Department of Chemistry – PG from Jyothi Nivas College, Autonomous, Bangalore, delivered a talk on the demand for chemists worldwide. III B. Sc students were given brief instruction on joining for Master degree in chemistry and the assured campus selection for all PG chemistry students.

Inter-class Competition
An Inter-class chemistry digital poster making competition was organized on 5th June 2024 on account of world environment day. The topic was on various concepts in science. Students’ creativity was tested with the present chemistry concepts and the usage of technology.

Workshop conducted
A workshop on the chemistry of soap and candle making was conducted on 20th June 2024 by Ms. Khushi Sagar N, an Alumni of Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College. The workshop was an approach for entrepreneurship in chemistry. An insight on chemical industries, marketing and processing of chemical items were given. The high need of chemists all over the world, information about the per capita income of chemists and the importance of studying chemistry was emphasized through the workshop. Around 30 students participated in the event.

Visit to Science Museum
Staff and students from the Department of Chemistry visited a science museum – Parsec, Jayanagar, Bengaluru on 27th June 2024. Students were given opportunity to learn about various compartments like kinetic kingdom, tactile trek, Digital galaxy, cardboard cosmos and Navarasa illusion where the students learnt about sensors, liquid crystals, 3D printing and Pascal’s triangle.

Mentoring activities:
Seminars, problem-solving and Internship using Information and Communication Technology were given to advanced learners for academic enrichment and to improve communication and presentation skills. Special coaching classes, remedial classes and revision tests were conducted for slow learners.
