National Tau-Day
Department of Mathematics celebrated Tau-Day on 6th June 2021, conducted Intra-Collegiate events like E-Quiz- 41 students participated, Visual Brain Teaser- 40 students participated and Digital Poster – 10 students participated. E- certificates were issued to all participants.
National Webinar
Department of Mathematics conducted webinar on topic “ Orientation towards IIT JAM” on 7th August 2021 via Microsoft teams at 3:00pm-4:00pm. Resource person Dr. R. Sumithra, Associate Professor, PG Coordinator, Head, Research Centre,Department of UG, PG Studies and Research in Mathematics Nrupathunga University, Bengaluru delivered the lecture. Around 100 Students and faculties from various colleges had participated in the webinar. E- Certificates were issued to all the participants.
National Mathematics Day
Department of Mathematics organized an Inter-Collegiate event : E- Quiz -38 students, Digital Poster-05 students and Intra- Collegiate events: Video Making- 09 students ,Collage – 03 students, Presentation – 10 students, Puzzle- 40 students, Sudoku – 40 students, Math Talk- 13 students. Total 50 students of various streams participated enthusiastically in the events from 15th – 20th December 2021. E-certificate were presented to all the winners.
Exhibition
The B.Sc.(PCM/PMC)- 13 students and BCA- 28 students had participated in the local exhibition at DIQA, Bangalore organized by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Defence from 14th - 17th December 2021. The students could explore equipment and model of radars and engine’s , which is used in Indian army , they gained lots of knowledge from this informative and it was fun learn exhibition.
National Webinar
A Webinar on the topic “Gems of Ramanujan and their lasting impact on Mathematics” was organized by the department of Mathematics, Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College, Bangalore and invited speaker S. Sridevi, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, V. R. Siddhartha Engineering college, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, On 22nd December 2021 at 2:00pm- 3:00 pm through the platform ‘Microsoft Teams’.
Sridevi made a presentation on the topic ‘History of Srinivasa Ramanujan’ she explained how from ancient times mathematicians transferred their knowledge and the revolution in Education. She explained how he got into the mathematics field and his love towards the subject. And also about Ramanujan’s theorems and their need in other fields. She also solved a few logical problems using Ramanujan’s concepts. After that questions and interaction session was held in which the speaker shared the information of the competitive exam. The session ended with the vote of thanks with 75 students of different organisations from various states. E-Certificate were issued to all the participants.
Industrial Visit
The Department of Mathematics organized an Industrial visit to Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant in Karwar, Karnataka on 28th July 2022 to 31st July 2022, 11 students and two faculties participated. The plant has been in operation since march 2000 and is operated by Nuclear Power Corporation Of India . It has four units with pressurized heavy water reactors of 220 Mw gross. The main idea of the Industrial visit was to show the students how the various proceedings happening in Kaiga generating station (KGS) and opportunities it provides for students to get into internships and job opportunities for B.Sc. One hour lecture is given by senior scientist Srinivas and given the brief information about how the nuclear power plants function. The students had a good time exploring and learning the working model of the power station. And visited local places nearby Karwar. Beach , Aanshi waterfalls, Inns Warship Museum and Rock Garden.
