Celebration of World Theatre Day at Bishop Cotton Women's Christian College
Karnataka Nataka Academy and Bishop Cotton Women's Christian College joined together in commemorating World Theatre Day at the Bishop Cotton Women's Christian College campus. The program was inaugurated by the Vice Chairman of the College Mr. Devdas, who spoke about the importance of theatre and its relevance in today's times. Mr. Ravindra Srinivas: member of the Nataka Academy enlightened the students about the activities of Nataka Academy and stressed on the involvement of students in theatre activities.
In addition to the World Theatre Day, 27th April also marks 50 years of street plays in Karnataka. Granddaughter of S.V. Murthy, pioneers of Street Play in Karnataka, as the Chief guest on the occasions gave a brief history of Street Play and its significance. Mr. Gladson Kundar, Treasurer of the college, highlighted the various theatre personalities and their contributions to Theatre. Dr. Revina Rebecca, Principal of Bishop Cotton Women's Christian College graced the occasion. The welcome address was given by Prof. Leena Karanth, Head, Department of English and thethe session was moderated by Dr. Manonmani, Head, Department of Kannada. The much-anticipated Street play was based on awareness surrounding the conservation of water resources, performed by the Dharani Kala Sangha.
