Christmas Outreach Program - The PG department of Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College, Faculty, and students across streams from MSc Psychology, M. Com, MA English, and MSc Nutrition & Dietetics visited the orphanage ‘Arrow Nest’ in Kothanur Bengaluru. Funds were raised for the outreach. The contribution was over Rs 6500/-. With this amount, necessities that the orphanage had requested were bought for the children. The items included sweaters, caps, umbrellas, toiletries, snacks, and stationery. The outreach visit took place on 20/12/22 with 12 students accompanied by faculty Ms Devaki. The students conducted various games in order to entertain the children. As a token of appreciation and encouragement for their participation they were given gifts.

CHRISTMAS OUTREACH PROGRAM ‘CELEBRATING THE FESTIVAL OF JOY AND HAPPINESS
Inter-collegiate Workshop
On Jan 7th 2023, an Inter-collegiate workshop on Roadmap to careers in Psychology and Mental health –Local and global opportunities was held. Resource person: Mr Chetan SV, Clinical Psychologist and Ph.D. scholar IIT. The Registration Fee was a nominal Rs 250/- We had 166 students from across 10 colleges in Bangalore who registered for the workshop. The colleges represented were NMKRV, BMS MES, MLA, St Annes, Frances De Sales, Jain university, Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College, UG and PG students, IIPR, Goodwill’s college. This 3 hour workshop had the following sessions: Knowledge and skills for employment in mental health sector, Resources for training and skill development, Internship and networking, Higher education in India and abroad, Reflective practices for lifelong learning. The feedback from the participants was very positive and all of them unanimously expressed that this workshop was a real big value addition for them.

Theme: Youth leaders as Change Makers. The 4 PG Departments made a brief Audio-visual presentation of their respective departments as they ushered in the new batch of students for the academic year 2023. Dr Vijayashri, Dean PG Dept. of Psychology delivered the Keynote address. The Leaders from each dept. representing their classes in the student Council were installed in Office for the current academic year. TRAINING Life skills training for volunteers from Maarga On 4th Feb ’23
The students along with the faculty from the PG department of Psychology Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College had organized a two-day training session on Life Skills Development for the volunteers at Maarga The session took place on 03/02/23 and 04/02/23 with 12 students under the guidance of the HOD Dr. Vijayashri, Dean Dept of Psychology.
The training session covered life skills such as Self Awareness, Empathy. Problem Solving And Decision Making, Coping With Emotions, Communication and Coping With Stress. This was followed by supervised sessions by our student volunteers for the 20 + volunteers of Maarga at their centre in Koramangala, Bangalore, where over 100 children participated.
Educational Visit: An Educational visit to NIMHANS for National Science Day was organized on 28th Feb 2023. During the National Science Day event we visited the Brian Museum where the human brain was displayed and its functioning was explained.
On April 28th 2023 the PG Dept. Of Psychology organized an Educational trip to the Brain Museum in NIMHANS, Bengaluru.
FEST - Aura 2023 - inter-departmental fest was organized by the PG Psychology students from 31-7-2023 to 4-8-2023. The theme was ‘Glow in the Dark’
AURA is a PG interdepartmental fest presented by the students of PG Dept of Psychology. It was originated by the former dean Dr. Vijayashree Ravi PG Dept of Psychology in order to make a cultural meet for the students of the postgraduate center. As aura simply means the distinct quality that seems to surround or come from somebody or something it makes all the Dept of the PG surround themselves with the theme of the fest. ‘AURA builds networks between individuals throughout the departments. It is the only fest that brings everyone together, and provides opportunities to showcase the talents. In the busy academic schedule students of all the streams take time to participate and win the events in the cultural fest.
SEMINAR -The 3-hour Seminar on Alternative Healing Techniques was organized by UG and PG department of psychology on 7th September 2023. The resource person was Dr. SANJAY KUMAR JAIN - Acupuncture and Acupressure Therapist, Yoga & Reiki Master. The seminar was about - knowledge of various healing techniques as today's Psychologists are increasingly integrating complementary and alternative healing techniques into their work with clients. The seminar gave an overview of most popular treatments and therapy in order to promote natural healing. Poster is attached below.
