Programme Specific Outcomes


Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) are statements that describe what a student should be able to do at the end of a program. PSOs can be measured through Course Outcomes (COs), which are broad statements indicating knowledge and skills acquired at the end of the course.

Programme Specific Objective:

To understand the nature and basic concepts of sociology and its various branches.
To analyse the interrelationships between sociology and social science.
To evaluate changing social relationships and social institutions in the context of Indian society.
To understand the individual social behaviour, various organizational social behaviour in different Social settings.


Programme Outcomes:

Knowledge of Subject : Apply the Sociological Knowledge to solution of complex social reality.
Problem analysis : Identify, formulate and analyse complex social problems by using available sociological literature.

I Semester : DSC-1 Understanding Sociology

Understand the nature and role of Sociology in a changing world
Comprehend the uniqueness of sociological imagination in the study of real world
Recognise different perspectives of perceiving the workings of social groups
Differentiate between sociology’s two purposes - science and social reform
Express one’s understanding of current social issues in oral and written forms

I Semester : DSC-2 Changing Social Intuitions in India

Identify the new forms taken by institutions of family and marriage
Understand the role played by religion in modern world
Sensitise the students to the conflicting norms of secularism and living by one’s religious beliefs
Appreciate the role of education and challenges in making education accessible to all

IV Semester : DSC-7 Sociology of Marginalised Groups

Knowledge of marginalized sections of Indian society.
Knowledge of inequalities on the basis of caste, class and gender.

Knowledge of social protests organized by the marginalized sections against injustices meted out to them.

IV Semester : DSC- 8 Population and Society

VI Semester : DSC-13 Sociology of Health

Understand the concept of health, illness and social conditions
Analyze the inter-relationship between social factors and health status
Understand the role of doctors, nurse, pharmaceutical industry and social institutions in maintaining and promoting human health.
Distinguish between health, well-being, illness and disease
analyze the role of pharmaceutical industry and hospitals critically.

VI Semester : DSC-14 Society in Karnataka

Aims to draw attention mainly to the problems, policies and programmers taken for the upliftment of the backward sections of Karnataka society and causes of their backwardness.
Know the problem faced by the tribes and policies and programmer taken by the government for the upliftment of Karnataka tribes.
